Meet our Research Manager

Gloria Goulart, Research Manager of the European Institute for Multidisciplinary Studies on Human Rights and Science – Knowmad Institut.

Gloria is social scientist, currently working with research, research management and consulting. A passionate defender of human rights and individual freedoms, she has participated and helped in the construction of different social movements in Brazil. Her research interests are varied and include processes of stigmatization and medicalization, urban lifestyles, feminism, gender performativity, motherhood and mothering practices, place of speech and public familiarity, music and philosophical aesthetics, among others. As a strong advocate for the social sciences to be regarded as a human right to knowledge, Gloria defends the openness and accessibility of all sciences, being what some would call an “activist of the base”, where experience, observations and informal conversations with the “bottom” or the “margins” are a sine-qua-non condition for knowledge creation and spreading, which are not plastered in boxed notions, but are able to present all the fissures and most basic necessities and outcomes of social transformation.

Currently, she is also a member of CannaFem; Doctoral candidate at the Department of Urban and Regional Sociology, at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Gloria holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences (Research Training) from the Humboldt University in Berlin, and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Santa Catarina, Brazil.
