This edition aims to explore and expand the innovative strategy of Deflection, which diverts individuals with substance use disorders or mental health conditions from the criminal justice system into appropriate community-based services. <a href="https://knowmadinstitut.org/journal/index.php/jms/about/submissions"><strong>Submit Here.</strong></a></span></p> <h4><strong>Why Deflection?</strong></h4> <p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Deflection offers a ground-breaking approach by which police and other emergency responders guide individuals with substance use disorders or mental health conditions away from the criminal justice system towards community-based support services. This transformative strategy is promising to enhance public health and safety, reduce stigma, and generate significant savings for justice systems worldwide. Yet, the evaluation of the effectiveness of Deflection is still emerging, even as more research (Mostly </span><span data-preserver-spaces="true">US based</span><span data-preserver-spaces="true">) comes out.</span></p> <h4><strong>This Special Issue Will Focus On:</strong></h4> <ul> <li><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Creating and promoting open-access research on Deflection.</span></li> <li><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Identifying challenges and opportunities for the refinement and growth of Deflection practices.</span></li> <li><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Discussing the philosophical and current conceptualizations of Deflection.</span></li> <li><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Disseminating knowledge and best practices to foster understanding and implementation of Deflection.</span></li> <li><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Exploring the connections between Deflection and UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 5 (Gender Equality), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).</span></li> </ul> <h4><strong>We Invite Contributions From:</strong></h4> <p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Scholars, practitioners, policymakers, activists, and other stakeholders who are engaged in or are studying the impacts and methodologies of Deflection.
